Having lived in Zimbabwe for 34 years, I have noticed a common refrain rise up from our people whenever we are faced with challenges. It always begins with, a tendency by people, of heavily relying on government support.
Often “ The Government should,” “…the government should fix the economy”, “the government should reduce the prices,” “the government should create more jobs.” We have managed to relegate ourselves to complete helplessness, giving up the locus of our control to someone else. Remember, the government is made up of people, holding office at a particular time and also refers to the system by which a community , city or nation operates.
The government of a country is interdependent with the people of the country; one cannot survive without the other. Unless we create a strong self-governance and begin to expand our influence to our family, communities we cannot expect government to act differently because the people in businesses and in office have a mindset identical to yours.
