Mentorship requires the
mentor help expand the vision of the mentee. It’s like what an artist
anticipates in painting a picture. They lose nothing from having people look at
it but gain great satisfaction when those who set their eyes on their work are
inspired by it. I call it building other people’s dreams and building requires
a lot of sacrifice from the mentor and the mentored.
Many do not see themselves
as having the ability to mentor. In fact often we are looking for someone to
motivate us and we forget that our experiences, no matter how seemingly
insignificant, can be a candle that can ignite other people’s dreams into
reality. Don’t be selfish with the
skills that you have acquired nor be boastful about your achievements, rather
acknowledge that you have something to contribute to those in your family,
community or nation – even it only means changing the life of one person.
To make certain that we
leave a heritage for the next generation we must pass on the information, experiences,
and lessons we have learned. Reformers pass on their wisdom to ensure that the
dreams that they have lived for are perpetuated from generation to generation.
